She was predeceased by: her parents, Lenus Smith and Mary Smith; her siblings, Johhny Smith (Gladys), Gerlad Smith (Betty) and Mary McGuirk (Gordon); and her brother-in-law Roland Smith.

She is survived by: her husband Fenton Smith; her children, Laurie Smith (Scott McDonald), Keith Volkomer (Samantha Phanthumchinda) and Liz Lanter (Jamie); her grandchildren, Sophie, Mia and Ian Lanter; and her sister-in-law Donna McLaine (Eric). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins, and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marlene may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
