He is survived by: his father Clifford Herring; his wife Linda Herring; his daughter Tammy Herring; his grandchildren, Avery and William Truesdell; his sisters, Susan Strickland and Lorna Stevenson (Paul); his mother-in-law Barbara Fraser; and his sister-in-law Anne Pater (Mario).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James's memory to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
