Russell Green wrote a sympathy message

“Over the decades of our friendship, John and I enjoyed many a conversation about art and music, inevitably accompanied by the clinking of glasses. He was a strong supporter of my own artwork and had a fondness for the painting presented here: "The Writer's Table at Midnight." It must have been something he experienced more than once with a looming deadline! I reproduce it here with one of my favourite pictures of John superimposed. He will be missed. Russell Green, Ottawa”
