He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Cowan and Eileen Cowan; his in-laws, John and Dorothy Slade; and his siblings-in-law, Karl Kosmonek, John Seago and Gerry Cowan.

He is survived by: his wife Liz Cowan; his son Paul Cowan (Teresa); his grandchildren, Jonathan, Ryan, Jordan and Vanessa; his children, Scott Cowan (Maria), Lisa Cowan and Karen Douglas (Corey); his grandson Ethan; his siblings, Colin Cowan, Merle Young (Gord), Helen Kosmonek and Marilyn Harris (Brad); and his sister-in-law Alison Seago. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
