He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Schapansky; his wife Laura Schapansky; his siblings, Wes, Viola and Eva; and his brother-in-law Elmer.

He is survived by: his daughter Treena Knelson (Jim). He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law; his numerous nieces and nephews; and by many friends.
