She was predeceased by : her husband Duncan Mitchell; her son Brian Mitchell (BJ); her parents, Gus Nowoczin and Emma Nowoczin; her siblings, Irma Smoch (Steve) and Arnold Nowoczin (Joan); and her brother-in-law Frank Pilcher.

She is survived by : her children, Larry Mitchell (Eleanor) and Brenda Reifferscheid (Brian); her grandchildren, Lisa Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell (Tiffany), Amanda Schumacher (Glen), Brad Sutherland, Matt Sutherland (Cindy), Cory Reifferscheid (Cynthia), Colin Reifferscheid (Leah Sperle) and Cameron Reifferscheid; her great grandchildren, Simon Mitchell, Isabella Mitchell, Catherine Mitchell, Jansen Sutherland, Bennett Sutherland, Emma Schumacher, Aurora Schumacher, Julien Reifferscheid, Kylie Reifferscheid, Shea Reifferscheid, Radly Reifferscheid, Rex Reifferscheid and Quinn Gartner; and her siblings, Shirley Pilcher and Pete Nowoczin (Marilyn).

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Verla to Pine Island Suites or Canadian Cancer Society.
