He was predeceased by: his father Thomas Roy; his father-in-law Lawrence Dick; and his sister-in-law Dianne Kolybaba. He is survived by: his significant other Gail; his son Brad Smith (Karen); his grandchildren, Campbell, Layney, Kynley and Tamra Birnie (Brad); his great grandchildren, Dylan, Myla, Brody and Kailey Gillies (Tanner); his mother Gisele Smith; his sisters, Claudia Berscheid (Gord) and Tracy Smith; his mother-in-law Vina Dick; his siblings-in-law, Ken Dick and Sandra Rogers (Tom); and also, Maisie and Adelyn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Private Memorial Service for Barry will be held.
