He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred and Violet; and his brother-in-law Cecil Bechtold. He is survived by: his spouse Phyllis; his son Randy (Tammy); his grandchildren, Scott (Carolyn), Courtney (Curtis) and Cody; his sister Adeline Bechtold; and his significant other Opey.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Vernon's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
