He was loved and cherished by many people including : his wife Inga Smart; his children, Glen (Judy), Barry (Lyla), Scott (Donica) and Charlotte (Ted); and his parents, Augustus Smart and Charlotte Smart. He was also cherished by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
