He was predeceased by: his parents, James and Phyllis; his parents-in-law, Walter and Lena Sperling; his siblings, Mary Svajlenko (John), Bill McGarry, Jim McGarry and Pat; and his brothers-in-law, Ernie Edingfield, Ron Sperling and Gerry Sperling.

He is survived by: his wife Linda; his son Wayne (Kara); his grandchildren, Kailee, Jordan and Jenna; his son Brent (Lisa); his grandchildren, Jonathon, Taryn and Brynn; his daughter Lisa (Lane); his sisters, Joan Martens (Henry) and Doreen Eddingfield; and his sisters-in-law, June McGarry and Jean McGarry. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of John may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion- Neilburg, Neilburg Recreation Board or Neilburg Community Hall .
