He was predeceased by : his wife Brigid Schaftari; his parents, Johann Schaftari and Katharina Schaftari; and his siblings, Katharina Stocia and Hans Schaftari.

He is survived by : his children, John Schaftari (Lynnda) and Maureen Todorovich (Dave); his grandchildren, Chandra Miller (Shane), Erin Siebert (Ray), Devin Schaftari (Myriah), Dillan Hnatiuk (Chelsea) and Brennan Hnatiuk (Taylor); and his great grandchildren, Kierstyn (Zachary), Brayden, Kaitlyn, Ashlynn, Rylan and Rhys.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Regina Pasqua Hospital.
