He was predeceased by: his parents, Johann Sander and Rosalie Sander; his siblings, Hertha Sander and Willie Sander; his parent-in-law Paul Hafner; and also Frieda Hafner.

He is survived by: his wife Valerie; his daughter Brenda Higgins (Darren); and his grandchildren, Jason (Taneeka) and Alli Higgins.
