He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton and Agnes; his siblings, George, Raymond, Rose and Martha; his parents-in-law, Anna-Marie Schmidt and Meinard Schmidt; his siblings-in-law, Maurice and Ethel; and his nephew Michael Schmidt.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn; his children, Brad, Juanita Halvorsen (Hal) and Trevor (Shannon); his grandchildren, Morgan, Ethan, Noah and Blake; and his siblings, Fate, Ben and Marilyn.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ben's memory may be made to Regina Palliative Care, Pasqua Hospital or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
