He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil (Mary Gess) and Carl (Solveig Bakke); his siblings-in-law, Delmar Kilback, Garry Bakke, Dwayne Bakke and Jeannette Gess; and his niece Joanne Gess.

He is survived by: his wife Lylah Gess; his children, Brent Gess, Heath Gess (Carol) and Lory Neumann (Brooks); his grandchildren, Dayton Neumann, Adara Robak, Brodii Mason (David), Sydney MacDonald and Jack Gess; his great grandchildren, Natalia, Clementine, Juniper, Addie and Bill; his siblings, Elvin Gess (Arlene), Doug Gess, Doreen Kilback and Bev Gess; and his sisters-in-law, Linda Alm, Sharon Irlbeck-Bakke and Dearla Bakke. He is also survived by the co-workers and friends.
