Dale Welta Obituary
He was predeceased by his parents Jennette (Bessie) Mackay (1941) and Hilmer (1972); stepmom, Helen (2015); and son Danny (1974). Dale is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy; daughters Carmen (Todd) and Cathy; grandchildren Tomas, Tori, Weston and Erik; and brother Ernie (Darlene).
Dale spent his childhood years roaming the fields in the RM of Fillmore before moving into Regina where he furthered his adventures by joining the Sea Cadets. A lifelong connection to the sea was nurtured with summer adventures at HMCS Quadra on Vancouver Island and, in 1956 on a naval cruise on the HMCS Quebec to (but not through) the Panama Canal. On his return to high school at Scott Collegiate he met his future wife Nancy.
Dale was a calm and industrious man as evidenced by his first child being born, co-founding Reliable Stationers, and supporting his wife at university, all in a very short period of time. As life settled, Dale and Nancy raised two independent daughters whose childhood memories are filled with camping adventures across Canada and the USA, watching him work in his workshop to build beautiful wood furniture (including a wooden sailboat), and cheering us on in our many activities. An active man, Dale enjoyed golfing and curling and later spent time building model-ships and travelling south in the winter. Always keeping the prairies, and Regina, as his home.
Retirement brought a reconnection to the Canadian Navy with reunions of both HMCS Quadra (BC) and HMCS Quebec, including hosting the final reunion of the HMCS Quebec/Uganda brotherhood of sailors in Victoria BC in 2017. He also volunteered at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 001 Museum, showcasing Saskatchewan citizens who served at sea and around the world. Dale finally made it through the Panama Canal on a cruise with his family in 2018.
Dale loved a cup of coffee with the "old guys" at the mall and spent many hours chortling over the discussion from the morning coffee hour. There was very little Dale didn't have an educated opinion on and when he spoke, you tended to want to listen. His advice was always as solid as his woodwork. We hope you're sailing with the stars, dad.
You're forever loved and forever in our hearts.
