He was predeceased by: his wife Dianne; and his parents, Cornelis and Margarete. He is survived by: his children, Tamara of Ottawa, ON, Moira Tether (Rob) of Meadow Lake, SK, Mike (Kim) of Ottawa, ON and Natasha Venables (Scott) of Regina, SK; his grandchildren, Brady (Stephanie), Keltie (Jordan), Aiden and Gavin; and his siblings, Sanneke (Ulf) and Reinoud (Marja).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
