She was predeceased by: her parents, Anton Hugie and Katherine Hugie; her husband Albert Schmalenberg; her daughter Colleen; her brothers, Arthur, Charlie, John and Frank; and her sister-in-law Wilma Hugie.

She is survived by: her son-in-law Frank Kasper; her grandchildren-in-law, Angela (Todd), Faith (Will), Sherri (Chris), Joshua (Mandy) and Sean (Rena); her son Owen (Helene); her grandchildren, Sarah, Erika (Benjamin) and Benjamin (Anne-Sophie); her son Keith (Peggy); her grandchildren, Scott (Randa), Jennifer (Mark) and Kyle (Tara); and her sisters-in-law, Mary Hugie and Esther Hugie. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
