Ron DePauw wrote a sympathy message

“John was always a cheerful person who was willing to engage in ‘bluesky’ thinking. John wanted the benefits of science to benefit farmers and thereby canadian society. John was very generous with his talents to assist others, be they farmers, national or international colleagues, students or fellow staff members. Simultaneously, he was always supportive of fran and their family. John was a model scientist and person! Ron depauw”
