He was predeceased by: his wife Marie; his siblings, Jim (late Mary), Julia Wagner (late Vilmos), Steve, Mary Fox (late Frank) and Frank; and his sister-in-law Alida Janzen (late Peter).

He is survived by: his children, Janice (Jim), Barry (Lori) and Brent (CarlaAnn); his grandchildren, Kate, Luke, Erin, Cara, Alec, Cole, Tess and Kelsey; his siblings, Elsie Korpach (late Neil), Rose Congram (late Carl), Terry Zwack (late Dennis), John (Sonya) and Henry; and his sisters-in-law, Agnes Iwanicha (late Tony), Irene Paradis (Roger), Evelyn Ternier (late Richard), Jean Meier (late Len), Joyce Perron (Mike) and Ellen Remai. He is also survived by extended family and many friends.

Inspired by the philanthropic activities of his older siblings and their spouses, Joe established the Joseph A. Remai Family Foundation in 2012. The Foundation has since that time directed donations to many community based organizations, as well as the major hospital foundations and the new Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus in Saskatoon.
