He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley; his parents, George Albert and Margaret Whiteside (Kirkpatrick Black Phillips); his brothers-in-law, Bud Vermeulen, Lyle Osterhout and Don Pearson; and his brother Jim Whiteside.

He is survived by: his sons, Douglas (Carol) and Michael (Debi); his grandchildren, Matthew, Kathryn, Christopher, Ellen, Raegan, Ruth, Brian and Benjamin; his great grandchildren, Zachary, Michaela, Rosalie, Elizabeth, Hallie, Aidan, Clara and Sadie; and his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Vermeulen (Don Topham), Jean Pearson, Marlene Osterhout, Joan Sweet (Bill) and Gladys Whiteside.
