She was predeceased by: her husband Peter Stepaniuk; her son Michael Stepaniuk; her daughter-in-law Bhupi Basran; her parents, Wasyl Melnyk and Olena Melnyk; her siblings, Maria Melnyk, Rosie Hrabchuk (Peter) and Maurice Melnyk; her siblings-in-law, Effie Tataryn (Louis), Bill Stepaniuk (Elsie), John Stepaniuk and Ronnie Stepaniuk; and her nieces, Sharon Firth (Earl) and Tammy Stepaniuk.
She is survived by: her children, Andrew Stepaniuk (Jennifer) and Eleanor Grabowski (Brent); her grandchildren, Bryn, Ethan, Nicholas and Adam; and her siblings-in-law, Lina Melnyk, Anne Stepaniuk and Mike Stepaniuk (Marjorie). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sophie's memory to St. Georges Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral or to Diabetes Canada.
