He was predeceased by: his parents, Johan Nygaard and Edna Nygaard; his sons, John and Gerald; his granddaughter Felicia; his son-in-law Ron Branvold; his sister Georgina; his brother-in-law Rodney Barager; and his niece Yvonne Barager.
He is survived by: his children, Richard (Susan), Sherrie, Sandy (Vern), Bruce (Judy), Lance (Jennifer) and Kevin; and his sister Lillian. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
