She was predeceased by: her husband Ed; her children, Clarence and Diana; her granddaughter Crystal; her parents, Fredrik Bardt and Elise Bardt; and her parents-in-law, Paul and Anna Smith.

She is survived by: her children, Ron, Dan (Bonnie), Alan and Nancy (Gary); her grandchildren, Dustin, Naomi (Allan), James (Marcie), Tyler, Matthew, Daney (Larry) and Sara; her great grandchildren, Taylor, Dylan, Leah, Reegan, Mieka, Lawson, Alexis and Owen; her sister Traute; and her nephew Rainer. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) may be made in Gerda's name.
