He was predeceased by: his son Ben Essert; and his siblings, Victor Essert, George Essert Jr., Virginia Sticka and Agnes Essert of Sister Georgine, OSB.

He is survived by: his wife Deanna Bindel Essert (Dee); his son Mark Essert; and his sister Dorothy Braun. He is also survived by husband and father, involved with and supportive of his sons.

The family suggests that donations in Joe's name be to Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1750 Abbott Rd. Anchorage, AK, 99507.
