He was predeceased by: his wife Emma Jean Matzke; and his grandson John Matzke. He is survived by: his children, Linda Joiner, Patty Cofer (Billy) and David Matzke (Mitzi); his siblings, Dale "Cookie" (Gail), Marlene "Cookie" and Corrine "Cookie"; and his grandchildren, Jason Matzke, Brooke Matzke, Brittany Wyatt (Jason), Heather Masters (Lee), Chad Elliott, Alex Matzke and Austin Matzke.
