He was predeceased by : his parents, Woodrow Childress and Eva Dan Childress; and his brother Donzell Childress. He is survived by : his wife Kathy Evers Childress; his children, Joey Childress (Amy) and Jaime Wordlaw (Brandon); his grandchildren, Alyson Gasparolo (Tommy), Michael Miller (Kiley Spain), Cole Garrett, Blakeley Davidson (Chase Kermondy), Caroline Clay, Kathryn Garrett, John Patrick Clay and Will Walters (Hannah Brooks); his great grandchildren, Kollins Grace Kermondy and Ava Clae Garrison; his brother Perry Childress (Gloria); and his sisters-in-law, Jeannie Roden (Larry) and Pam Jolley (Roger). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 29th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Asbury Methodist Church (3177 Asbury Rd, Albertville, AL 35951). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 29th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
