He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Jack McKewen and Ruth McKewen (Peeples); his wife Betty Bates; his daughters, Betsy Byars (Will), Katie Smith (Doug) and Ginny Paul (Bryan); his grandchildren, Jack Smith, Alice Byars, Lula Byars, Reed Smith, Gigi Byars, Mary Addison Paul and Mack Paul; and his sisters, Debby Ferguson (Bob) of Charleston and Peggy Kyzer. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
