He was predeceased by: his parents, Strother Owen and Minnie Lee Blanton; and his siblings, Vireece Studyvin and Owen Blanton. He is survived by: his wife Louise Nichols Blanton; his children, Bonnie Blanton McGriff (Don) and Gary Wayne Blanton (Linda); and his grandson Daniel Lee McGriff (Amanda).

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church Sandusky 1125 Haven Drive Birmingham, AL 35214.
