He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Carroll Gardner Sr. and Pauline Sanders Gardner; and his sister Anne Gardner Travis. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Reed Gardner (Patti); his sons, Richard "Dick" (Donna), Mike (Nancy), Jim (Millie) and David "Chip" Gardner (Faith); and his grandchildren, Will (Mary), Jamie, John David (Mal), Josh (Emily), Katie, Jared, Mary and Anna Frances Gardner.
