He was predeceased by : his wife Gayle; his parents, William Walter and Hattie Mae Merritt Arnold; and his brothers-in-law, Clark Lewis and Paul Edfeldt.

He is survived by : his children, Katie Shockley (Steve) and Merritt Arnold (Amy) of Athens, GA; his grandchildren, Morgan Arnold, Cameron Arnold and Sadie Arnold; and his sisters-in-law, Sue Edfeldt of Vestavia Hills and Frieda Lewis of Attalla. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
