He was predeceased by: his parents, Clay Bassett and Ruth Bassett; his parents-in-law, Ken and Zea Williams; and his grandson John Daniel Landrum.
He is survived by: his wife Charmaine Williams Bassett; his children, John Clay Bassett II (Julie), Elizabeth McCain (Todd) and Maree Landrum (D. J.); his grandchildren, Jackson Bassett, Aynsley McCain, AnnaBeth McCain, Anderson Bassett and Piper Landrum; his brother Charlie Bassett (Terry); and his siblings-in-law, Gail McCain and John Williams. He is also survived by many cousins he thought of as sisters and brothers.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 13th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Gulfcrest Cemetery (8404 Gulfcrest Rd, Chunchula, AL 36521).
