He was predeceased by: his father David M. Smart; and his grandparents, James, Bonnie Lou McDaniel and Nancy Williams Smart. He is survived by: his son Jonathan David Smart (Meredith); his sisters, Sherry Harvey (Harold), Northport, Lisa Robertson (Rex) and Holman; his mother Faye Smart; his granddaughter Sutton Claire Smart; and his wife Anita.
