He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Cox and Corda Faust Cox; his wife Ethel I. Cox; and his siblings, Lola Mae Widner, Gussie Lee Michaels, Verbon Cox, Earl Cox and Ray Cox.

He is survived by: his stepchildren, Mary Dean Lamar, Shelia Thomas, Jo Etta Wilt (Bill) and Douglas Miller (Sandra); his nephew Wayne Widner; and his stepgrandchildren, Kristy White (Philip), Leann Evans (Drew), Brad Lamar, Anthony Lamar (Bethany), Ashley Dawes (Tim), Kim Sharpton (Wade), Paul Miller (Letha), Josh Thomas (Jessica) and Terrie Warnke (Don). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
