He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Kirkland and Eunice Kirkland; his parents-in-law, Reuben and Ruth Thomley; his daughter Sharon Joi Kirkland; and his brother Horace Kirkland.
He is survived by: his wife Ann Thomley Kirkland; his son Gary Kirkland (Susan); his granddaughters, Holly Braswell (Ben) and Maryann Crawford (Thomas); his great grandchildren, Graham Braswell, Kate Price, Annie Braswell and Henry Thomas Crawford; his siblings, Royce Kirkland (Fay), James Kirkland (Mary) and Jewel Whatley; his sister-in-law Katherine Sanders (Marell); and his aunt Faye Forrester. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
