He is survived by: his children, Ricky Mercer, Johnny Mercer and Christy Spivey; his grandchildren, Zackary Mercer, Casey Mercer, Kaley Shelley, Kaleb Spivey, Karley Spivey and Jamson Mercer; his great grandchildren, Aleah Mercer and Braxton Chumney; and his siblings-in-law, Lillie Geer (Dennis), Shirley Bradley (Rufus) and Wayne Jenkins. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
