He was predeceased by: his mother Katie Nell Davis Pitts; his stepfather G. W. Pitts; his wife Norma Jean Smith Johnson; his son Kenneth Duane Johnson; and his brother Billy Joe Pitts.
He is survived by: his sister Barbara Everett; his brother-in-law Congressman R. Terry Everett; his close friend Agnes Karvonen; and his nieces, Sherry Cuches and Jody Smith. He is also survived by several other relatives and friends.
