He was predeceased by: his father George W. Powell Jr.; his grandparents, George W. Powell Sr., Effie Powell, Aubrey and Myrtle Hopkins; and his uncle Billy Hopkins.
He is survived by: his mother Shirley Hopkins Benton (Jack); his son Christopher Powell; his brother Gregory Powell (Mitzi); his stepsiblings, Michael Benton and Donna Boyd; and his granddaughter Avy Powell. He is also survived by aunts; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
