He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Moates and Jeanette Moates; and his sister Emily Sawyer. He is survived by: his wife Jill Carmichael Moates; his stepdaughters, Jana Emfinger and Jenna Deal; his stepgranddaughters, Lailyn Medley and Kaylee Crook; his siblings, Rebecca Cain (Dennis) and David Moates (Joan); and his aunt Tommye Byrd. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
