With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Benny Barnes of Florence, Alabama, born in Gadsden, Alabama, who passed away on March 11, 2021 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Newton Eldridge Barnes, Jr. and Sarah Roach Barnes; his wife Elba Crowe Barnes (Pretty Lady); his sister Bonnie Barnes Voit (Stan) of Sevierville; his nephew Douglas Harris Barnes; his daughter-in-law Angela Kiskadden Barnes; his grandchildren, Isabelle Ann Barnes of Madison, Alabama, Samuel Lewis Barnes of Madison, Alabama and Adeline Grace Barnes of Madison, Alabama; his stepdaughters, Pamela Clark Hansard (Paul) of Tallahassee and Christina Kathryn Clark of Orlando, Florida; his sister-in-law Edna Crowe Carroll (Chester) of Florence; his nieces and nephews, Tracie Ayn Martin of Bozeman, Margaret Rheubottom (Phil) of Livingston, Montana, Scott D. Matthews (Hillarie) of Mexia, Randall L. Matthews (Laura) of Cypress and Kit Voit of Cullman, Alabama; his sister Mary Grace Matthews (Sissy); and his friends, Annie Garth, Carolyn Barnett, Mattie Jackson and Cassandra Montgomery.
We recognize Rev. Brandon Miles who sustained Elba with meaningful visits and joined her at times during her daily window visits at the Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Facility when CDC Covid rules prevented in-room visits.
