He was predeceased by: his parents, Herschel James and Minnie James; and his brothers, Alton James and J. P. James. He is survived by: his wife Imogene James; his children, Milton James, Pam Kingsbury and Marty James; and his siblings, Faye Nell Liverett, Marva Davis, Mary Ruth Collier and Robert James.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
