He was predeceased by: his parents, J. W. Burks and Willedean Behel Burks; his sons, Joel Burks and Jamie Burks; and his siblings, Ricky Burks and Joyce Young.

He is survived by: his wife Wanda Kay Bretherick Burks; his daughter-in-law Ragan Burks; and his grandchildren, Collin Burks and Lottie Grace Burks.
