He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Howell Byrd; his parents, William T. Bird and Nina Jeter Bird; and his brothers, William Byrd Jr., James Byrd and Frank Byrd.
He is survived by: his siblings, Malcolm Byrd (Caroline), Joe Byrd (Velvie), Louis Byrd (Darlene), Mary Gowen (Dee), Margie White (Gene) and Edna Parrot (Dicky); and his children, Gary Byrd, Joan Byrd Harris, Kay Peoples Zarzour, Judy Peoples Bearden (Tim) and Kenny Peoples (Dana). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
