He was predeceased by: his daughter Lynn Matthews Cody; his parents, William Matthews and Lallage Matthews; his sister Mary Florence Ward; and also, John Matthews (Wilodean) and Billy Matthews (Peggy).
He is survived by: his wife Sonja Matthews of Gadsden; his children, Phil Matthews (Sherry) of Anniston and Julie Farrow (Bill) of Gadsden; his grandchildren, Zoe Matthews, Staci Seals and Chase Seals (Kristen); his nieces, Debbie Torres, Pam Snell and Linda Ward; and his nephew Larry Ward. He is also survived by other nieces and nephews.
