He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerry Coker and Gwynne Coker; and his son Joe Coker. He is survived by: his son Jason Coker (Jenny); his grandchildren, Jared Coker, Dallas and Alaina Gregerson; and his siblings, Shelley Coker Hale, Margaret Johnson (Lee), Dixie Coker Ferguson, Tommy Coker (Rhonda) and Jeff Coker (Deb). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

He was a standout football player and during his senior year, he was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year for both the All-Northeast Alabama team and the Benny Hill Charity Bowl.
