He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Wayne Matthews; his stepfather Roy Lee Akridge; and his brother Joel Brett Matthews. He is survived by: his mother Joan Akridge; his siblings, Johnny Matthews (Becky) and Kelly Reynolds (James); and his children, Jeremy Matthews (Gladys), Ashlee Matthews, Joseph Matthews (JoJo), Emily Matthews, Jensen Matthews and Phoenix Messer. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
