He was predeceased by : his son Wyatt Pearson; his stepmother Mildred Gay; his brother Bobby Gene Gay; and his parents, Arthur M. Gay and Flora Ree Snider Gay.

He is survived by : his wife Josephine Gay; his children, Carol Herring (Perry) and Carl Pearson; and his siblings, Steve Loftus (Debbie), Paul Gay (Elaine), Wesley Gay (Mona), David Gay (Sheilah) and Connie McMahon (Dewayne). He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Flatwoods Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 778 Flatwoods Road, Gordo, AL 35466.
