He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Nelson and Dorothy Nelson (Hall); his daughters, Zena Watts and Loretta Empson; and his brothers, Marion Nelson, Jack Nelson, Fred Nelson and Francis Nelson.
He is survived by: his former wife Myrtle Smith March; his spouse Mabeline Hopkins; his son Harry William Nelson Jr. (Tracey) of Hartselle Alabama; and his sisters, Bernice Bound of Prophetstown, IL, Susanne Mendez of Kewanee, IL and Pearl Nelson (Sheila) of Moline, IL.. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
