She was predeceased by: her parents, Carol Jean and Ellen Barnes Jean; her husband J. R. "Tick" McDowell; and her siblings, Wayne, Randy Jean and Betty Long.

She is survived by: her children, Melba Johnson (Jeff), Bruce McDowell (Tina) and Carl McDowell (Cathy); and her sisters, Christine Varner and Barbara Moore.
