She was predeceased by: her parents, Leo Powell and Annie Mae Powell; her husband Thomas George Gates; her son Thomas Brian Gates; her brothers, Miller Jay Powell, Wilmer Kay Powell and William Norris Powell; and her brothers-in-law, Robert Garrick and H. P. Gates.
She is survived by: her daughter Tara Morrison (Michael); her grandchildren, Alex Morrison and Abbie Morrison; her great grandchild Thomas Rylen Garner; her sisters, Etherene Sirmon (John) and Dorothy Garrick; her sisters-in-law, Johnie Dunagan, Evelyn Green, Betty Bradford and Peggy Gates; and her close friends, Martha Carroll, Bobbie Carter, Betty White and Daisy Allen. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
