He was predeceased by: his parents, George Richard Ernsberger and Clino Gale Ernsberger; and his brother Dale D. Ernsberger. He is survived by: his wife Betty Ann Ernsberger; and his children, Gale Richard Ernsberger, Jr., Deborah Ann Milling and Margaret Ellen Ernsberger. He is also survived by three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
